Best way to level before Charr Hunting in Pre is to do the quest "Charr at the Gates" over and over (go, kill charr, return, abandon quest, retake, rinse wash repeat).

That only really helps getting to lvl 8-10 though *gets really annoying to level at lvl 8*. Other then that, just make sure you have all the skills you can get, then Charr Hunt.

Besides all that, only point in leveling in pre is for getting LDoA, so if your not getting that and your not a perma pre, just go to post >.>

You should be able to handle anything in Pre at lvl 8...... and get used to getting your butt kicked as to get past lvl 16 you will have to death level anyways to continue leveling up.

yes death lvling. Thats the only way you can get the title Legendary Defender of Ascalon. You have to use the technique and lvl up the charr. google it or look on youtube, someone has a video on how to deathlevel

What I have done in the past:

-char at the gate, untill nausium.
-go into the char area and kill the oak hearts and grawl, ignore the char if possible
-when you hit level 10ish you should be able to handle the char, you may need to group up with another person near your level (less exp but you get some)
- kill the char
- turn in quests
- death level

That is the best way I have found.

They gain levels same way you do - xp from killing things. And the only thing in pre with a high enough level for them to get xp from is you. so you have to let them kill you over and over without zoning until they get to level 20 and then you kill them.

Check out presearing.com there should be a guide or two there.

As a lvl 8 ele/mes you might want to try the bosses instead of normal charr groups. The bosses can actually be easier because the various patrol/guard groups around them are easily pulled and you can used the hills on both sides for pretection.

The actual bosses themselves are also fairly easy to separate except for the monk who can be a bit of a pain (he casts heal area on himself, by the way, so the best way to fight him is go toe to toe)

If you really do not want to fight charr then at level 8 you can still get a small amount of xp from the rogue bull (lvl5) in the "mesmer's burden" quest if you have not yet accepted the reward, the river drake (lvl5), the charr (lvl5) from "charr at the gates" Skullreaver (lvl5) in the catacombs, the skale brood (lvl4) under the waterfall and Vatlaaw Doomtooth (lvl6) from "trouble in the woods" (you have to run around the hill to catch him). Frankly, i don't think any of them are worth the effort it takes compared to killing the charr bosses.

There is a decent guide on leveling in pre + getting LDoA here.

Find a friend/guildy who will go with you. Charr hunting early on can be a bit frustrating, but nearly all the groups from the shrine area and the two groups before that can be killed while "hiding". Use the terrain to your advantage. I can show you if you want just pm me.
